Orphan's Gift
Who knew a meager journey begun in 1622
by a young English gentleman in search of lands and fortune would end in humility and thankfulness? This journey of lifetimes is filled with adventure, intrigue, love and hate. The gentleman was Thomas Prater, young and without property.

About the Authors
Orphan's Gift is co-written by sisters Mary Sikora, Margaret (Peggy) DeStefano and Sally Ruth Gronauer. They have captured the spirit of their Prather line of ancestors. The past has come to life in this historical novel. The book is a great example of taking your family genealogical research to a new level.

Writing this book has been a fun and often surprising journey. Now that the sisters have finished their first project together, they are already fast at work on their second book in what they hope will be series of historical novels.

Dedication
This book is lovingly dedicated to our mother Myrl Elizabeth Prather.

See the Family Tree
Orphan’s Gift is a story based on the genealogy of the Prather family. The authors wish to acknowledge their use of some of the finest sources available; in particular, the Maryland and Virginia Colonials: Genealogies of Some Colonial Families, by Sharon Doliante. Her book is the standard for all Prather genealogy and history. There are many other extraordinary sources mentioned in their bibliography. But the best sources of all are the Prathers, whose history has stayed with the writers and has inspired them in everything they do. See the Prather Family Tree.

Graham Plaid
At the beginning of Chapter 11, we refer to the Graham plaid which is a fascinating representation of the Prather's Scottish history. See More on Graham plaid.

Prather Coat of Arms
The FAMILY coat-of-arms may not be easily found in picture form at your library . . . See More on the Prather Coat of Arms.
